One of Latvia's oldest canned fish brands, tracing its origins to a tin can and canned food factory founded in Riga by Scandinavian businessman Arnold Sorensen. After World War I, a flying seagull logo was adopted and the KAIJA brand established, kaija meaning seagull in Latvian. The company grew into the largest processor of Atlantic fish in the Baltic states, employing 720 people at its peak. After bankruptcy and reorganisation the brand was retained and is now produced by Karavela, a Riga-based fish processor continuing the Kaija tradition.
